"I started training with Augie in the fall of 2005. The strength and balance I gained in a short time really improved my snowboarding and made for a much fuller season. This fall once again, Augie has put me on the mountain with much more strength and flexibility. Training with him also helps manage the stress in my life. Simply put, as a 51 year old man who hates the gym but loves the Jackson Hole lifestyle, Augie has honestly enhanced my quality of life."

"So, I'm going for a short run three months after my son is born and my bladder dislodges into my running shorts. Hard to imagine? Trust me on this, I was mortified! The consensus from the doctors was a hysterectomy... except for one. She told me to give it six months and workout like a mad woman to get my core strength back. During this desperate attempt to avoid surgery, I forgot that 1) I had just given birth to a very large baby; 2) I was exhausted, and 3) my body wasn't prepared for 'mad woman' workouts! I gave it my best shot and saw a massage therapist weekly to relieve the pains in my hips, legs and abs. One day in the gym, Augie saw me working out (like a mad woman). He asked me to join his [group] workout with another victim, Jay. He figured I could hang, I guess I was flattered. The first 'group workout' was great. I realized that I'm addicted to Zone 3 [high intensity] workouts! Oh, and I saw the massage guy following that workout. It took a few weeks, but I finally asked Augie why I wasn't training with him [privately]. (I'm having fun, but I'm in pain!) I made that first training session with Augie. The prognosis wasn't great, as I was completely "out of balance." Half my body didn't fire and the other half was in overdrive. That was my "ah hah" moment --that's why I'm in so much pain on this side. It's been seven months of instruction, precision, and hard work. I can play like I use to, run without pain, and enjoy my workouts once again. Inchworms, spi-deez, zigzags and stretches that cause men and women alike to cry like babies... It's all good. I've forgone situps, massage therapists, chiropractors and "normal" workouts for Augie, and I'd do it again. I train less and have gained more "balance" than ever before. Training to be Balanced... it's his job, but it's your adventure. Thanks, Augie."

"In describing a training session with Augie, the following words come to mind: encouragement, sweat, clear goals, and hope. I am a 55 year old woman who has trained with Augie for the last several years. With his help, I was able to climb to 19,000 feet in the Himalayas without being a super jock and will soon be climbing Kilimanjaro [Completed Nov. '05]. Augie's Training to be Balanced LLC approach of training for the movement with emphasis on balance has been the right combination to unlock my formerly challenged athleticism. His physical therapy background and emphasis on research based approaches gives Augie a broad base of knowledge that allows me to safely push the envelope without getting injured. There is no drudgery in working with Augie. He finds creative ways to achieve the desired results without boring repetition and he is constantly learning new techniques that will move his clients forward. Augie is motivated, motivating, and most of all, fun."

"On November 4, 2006 I competed in my first race, the Telos Sprint Triathlon in Orem, Utah. It was fun! Augie came along as my cheerleading squad. We drove down the night before, talking strategy and rocking out to the iPod. The next morning, at 9:00am on a cloudy, yet warm fall day, the starting shot was fired and we were off. About 300 of us ran 3.1 miles around a quiet residential neighborhood then hopped on our bikes and peddled 10.0 miles around the same neighborhood and the University campus, and then jumped in the pool at the Orem Fitness Center and snaked our way around it for 350 meters. I finished right in the middle of the pack. I was very happy with my performance. My goal was to finish and I did just that; and I wasn't the last one out of the pool. I had initially started training for a marathon but decided running 26.2 miles did not sound like my cup of tea so I switched gears and trained for the triathlon. Having the three different events was great. Fortunately all the training paid off. I felt totally energized when it was over! It was a wonderful experience for my first race! I am already looking forward to the next one. My new goal is to compete in an Olympic length triathlon. A new challenge for 2007!"

"Training with Augie has completely improved and accelerated my endurance, balance, and core strength. Having been working-out consistently with Augie just under a year [mostly his group classes], I continue to find myself able to ski harder, run longer, and row stronger. This spring, Augie helped me change my running gait from an inefficient, unbalanced lope, to a smooth, highlyefficient stride that allows me to run greater distances while expending less energy and not having joint or back pain when I am done. Best of all, Augie’s creative use of games (remember wheelbarrow races from when we were young?) make workouts fun! Augie's personal dedication to bettering each of his clients' athletic pursuits - no matter what they may be - shines through. Thanks Augie!"

"I already possessed a love for movement, was addicted to a runner's high and was dedicated to a daily workout, yet somehow I was looking for more. Enter Augie Hernandez. Augie taught me right away the importance of doing an exercise "efficiently". I also realized I need to do each exercise "10,000 times faster." I am still working on that one! My goal was to complete a marathon. I had finished one before, however, I could hardly walk for a month afterwards. This time I wanted to be stronger and more prepared. Augie immediately started me on a running program, cleaned-up my running pattern, and gave me strength workouts. Then, in my typical fashion, I started "thinking" about everything too much. I told Augie there is NO way I could finish a full marathon; I think I can only do half. He was very supportive, telling me I needed to do what was right for me, but he also said, "You ARE capable of finishing a full marathon." So I kept training for a full marathon. Augie kept encouraging me and slowly I got my confidence back. I finished the San Francisco Marathon and felt great! I found out how strong my body really is, but more importantly, I found out how strong I am mentally."

"There just are not enough hours in the day to get my BOSU work done. So, here is an example of "Take Your BOSU To Work" day. I almost considered going to disability a few years ago because of a back problem. However, working with Augie and the "Train to be Balanced" approach to conditioning and core strengthening, I can see myself working full time with little or no back pain, for many years to come. Thanks, Augie, you are the best!"

"In December 2001, I fell skiing and tore ligaments in my knee as well as fractured bones in that area. After surgery and lots of rehabilitation, I was still not 100%. I tried skiing in 2003 and 2004, but my knee was still in pain and I could only ski one or two runs. I finally spoke with Augie in September 2004, as my knee hurt during all of my favorite activities - hiking, tennis, water and snow skiing. Working out with Augie has changed my life by allowing me to participate in all the sports I love - pain free! He is very enthusiastic, knowledgeable, challenging and concerned about how well his clients are achieving their goals. Because of my recurring knee pain, I have chosen Grey Area Training. In addition, I added personal training sessions once per week as I have a difficult time motivating without a specific program (unless I am on a cardio machine). I can now workout everyday without wasting time at the gym wondering what to do next. This is the best combination of training I have ever had!"

"I have been working out with Augie on and off for the past 5 years and have been very fortunate to train with someone so personally dedicated to each of his clients. Personal training with Augie is an evolution of strength and core development through a balance of unique and specific exercises, not the usual ho hum repetition training you will find with most trainers. I started to train with Augie mainly because I am a outdoor cardio junkie and realized that without the discipline of a trainer, I'd never get inside a gym and lift weights. Once I started to train with Augie, I was a bit of a skeptic, as I had been brainwashed to believe that the classic repetition exercises were what brought about the most strength. After only a few short months, both my training partner and I were feeling so much stronger in our cores and were both inspired by the results to keep training and even pick up an added day a week! That was two years ago, and we are both still hooked on his approach to core training and are feeling stronger than ever."
